Weekend escapes
Two or three days, one base, no long transfers.
- A weekend in the mountains that feels like a reset: two slow days in Jibhi and the Tirthan Valley, Himachal Pradesh.
- A Jaipur weekend for first-timers: forts, palaces and bazaars in a relaxed two-day plan.
- Chandigarh: the Capitol Complex, the Rock Garden and leafy sectors, easy to see in a day or two.
- Haryana: Kurukshetra and the Morni Hills, close to Delhi and Chandigarh.

Mountain roads
High passes and valley roads. Many close in winter, so check conditions before you set out.
- Ladakh: high-altitude desert, monasteries and lakes such as Pangong and Tso Moriri, with permit and altitude notes.
- Lesser-known places in North India: includes Chitkul in Kinnaur, a village at the end of the road.
- Himachal Pradesh: the Kangra and Kullu valleys, and the high desert of Spiti and Lahaul.
- Uttarakhand: rivers, forests and mountain trails, including the Panch Prayag road along the Alaknanda.

Culture & heritage
Old cities, monuments and traditions that are still lived.
- Rajasthan: hill forts, palace cities and the Thar Desert.
- Delhi: Mughal monuments, old bazaars and museums.
- Uttar Pradesh: Varanasi’s ghats, the Taj Mahal in Agra and Lucknow’s Awadhi heritage.
- Living traditions in Uttarakhand: Aipan, Harela, Ramman and the temples of Jageshwar.

Food trails
Regional cooking worth planning a day around.
- Punjab: Amritsar, Sikh heritage and Punjabi food.
- Delhi: old bazaars and neighbourhood food.
- Uttar Pradesh: Lucknow’s Awadhi heritage.
- Kashmir Valley: food & crafts: the wazwan table and Kashmiri crafts.

Spiritual journeys
Rivers, temples and pilgrim towns. Dress modestly and follow local guidance at places of worship.
- Five meetings, one river: the Panch Prayag of Uttarakhand: the five confluences that form the Ganga.
- Rishikesh beyond the obvious: suspension bridges, the evening Ganga aarti and quieter corners.
- Punjab: the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
- Jammu Region: Vaishno Devi: registration and the route above Katra.
- Uttar Pradesh: the ghats of Varanasi.

Offbeat places
Quieter places that reward a little more effort.
- Lesser-known places in North India: Bundi, Kapurthala, Morni Hills, Mehrauli, Dudhwa, Chitkul, Munsiyari and Bhaderwah.
- A different side of Himachal: the Kangra Valley, slowly.
- Jammu Region: Patnitop, Bhaderwah and Kishtwar beyond the pilgrim route.

Solo travel
Places with simple transport and an easy rhythm. Read the practical notes and your government’s travel advice before you go.
- A different side of Himachal: a slow train, monasteries and an artists’ village in the Kangra Valley.
- Rishikesh beyond the obvious: a river town that is easy to explore on foot.
- Travel notes: permits, mobile networks and official advice.

Slow travel
Fewer places, more time in each.
- A different side of Himachal: three unhurried days under the Dhauladhar range.
- A weekend in the mountains that feels like a reset: river sounds, timber villages and a forest walk.
- Living traditions in Uttarakhand: village homestays and seasonal festivals.

Family trips
Shorter journeys, flexible days and sights that work across ages. Plan around the season.
- A Jaipur weekend for first-timers: forts, palaces and bazaars at a relaxed pace.
- Chandigarh: the Rock Garden and leafy sectors.
- Delhi: monuments and museums.
- Climate & seasons: when each region is most comfortable.
